Last weekend in Minneapolis was the City of Lakes Luminary Loppet. I was not there myself but I have seen several pictures and heard about the experience from my sister who attended. There were hundreds of ice sculptures, ice luminaries, and an "enchanted forest." Those who attended could walk, ski, or just watch and enjoy food and live music. I heard it was quite and impressive and magical environment, and I imagine that an immense amount of work went into creating this fantastic scene. So why create this spectacle, especially when you consider the ephemeral medium of ice? I think that it served as a great attraction to draw people together for the event. My sister said that besides the beautiful decoration, a wonderful part of the experience was seeing so many people enjoy it.
