Migrations can cause some of the most stunning unintentional spectacles. I remember biking through a forest as a kid during a monarch migration and being both scared and awed by the beauty of the trees dripping with thousands of butterflies. An entirely new environment is created by the swarms of migrating creatures. This happens with pelicans in the plains as well. Sometimes entire lakes will be blanketed with pelicans. No human could ever orchestrate such a spectacle as a winged migration.

ReplyDeleteThis post reminded me of this video. It's a great little piece, kinda long--the part that I thought of is the last 3 minutes--Incredible capturing of flocks moving together.
