Not Just Hershey Kisses

Whether you plan to participate or not, there is no way to ignore the fat that Valentines Day is on Monday. And what a spectacle that is. First, like any great spectacle, it takes preparation. Factories must produce millions of candies, cards, and fluffy things that sing when you squeeze their hand. Then, stores must advertise their wares. Next, some consumer, hoping to woo an audience with these treasures, must purchase these items. And finally, they must be received and hopefully accepted by the audience.

Now, lets look at these fluffy singing toys, sparkling jewels, fragrant blossoms, and other gifts as the props.
Then the event must be publicized in an inciting way to generate an audience.
Actors audition, often several months in advance, to be the star of someone's production.
Actors prepare to enter the stage. They carefully choose their costumes and may rehearse lines or choreography that they believe will engage their audience.
A setting is often chosen with the backdrop carefully picked out.
And I could go on and on.

A spectacle is something that catches your attention, makes you feel something, expresses something important, makes a statement, or is just plain sparkly... I think Valentines Day is all of those things... especially the sparkles...
