Street Art
Street art or "graffiti" is one of the most controversial forms of spectacle because most of it is illegal, but the artists attack social and political issues with their work. The most notorious street artist is a British man who goes by the pseudonyme of Banksy. His stencils which are now all over Britain have made fun of famous statues and insulted the queen. He even hung his own paintings in some of the most respected art museums. However, his greatest achievement and biggest spectacle was when he flew to Israel and painted nine images on the Israeli West Bank barrier. The controversy that arose from this incident not only established his name, but made people think more about the conflict between Israel and Palestine and how the wall effected the situation. One of the most important part of this spectacle is that Banksy creates his works in many different mediums and does not worry about who he will offend, only that people will start to think.
